The Drugs Control Department regulates the possession, storage, sale and use of specified poisons in Kerala under the Poisons Act, 1919 and the Kerala Poisons Rules, 1996. The regulatory framework is intended to ensure the safe custody, proper storage and responsible handling of poisons and to prevent their misuse.

 

Poison Licence is required for the authorised possession, storage and sale of specified poisons. It is also applicable, as prescribed under the relevant provisions, to persons or establishments manufacturing and selling products containing specified poisons, where such licensing is required.

 

Examples include:

 

Specified poisons intended for sale
Products containing specified poisons
Manufacturing establishments producing and selling such products
Wholesale/retail sale of specified poisons, as applicable
Poison Permit is issued to eligible persons or institutions for the possession and use of specified poisons for bonafide professional, educational or scientific purposes, subject to the conditions of the permit.
